"If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them." Henry David Thoreau
Mount Gretna School of Art has successfully attracted inspiring students, artists and lecturers from the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond since its inaugural summer session of 2013.
Your help with the following campaign will bring the school one step closer toward securing a lasting presence in the region.
The Mount Gretna School of Art's programming successes show how much we need to move the school out from under rental dependency and into the pursuit of secure artist spaces, both residences and studios. The initial effort to acquire a cottage is substantial, however we're thinking long term and have seen that owning greatly stabilizes our programming and lowers our annual operating budget compared to renting.
Donate to this Challenge campaign today! We've reached $136,400 of the $150,000 needed, as of August 1st.
- A $75,000 dollar for dollar matching grant from the Thomas A. and Georgina T. Russo Family Foundation is accelerating this campaign to support the purchase of "Artist Cottage 2" (200 Markwood Avenue). Help us draw down the remaining $6,800 left on this challenge grant.
- Artist Cottage 1 (202 Markwood Avenue) worked out great and provided a successful model that we are eager to repeat.
Our program uses four cottages each summer. This campaign is helps us move from 75% cottage rental dependency to 50%, helping to build "foundations" under our "Castle in the Sky."
