Public Lecture by Carrie Patterson

  • Hall of Philosophy 212 Gettysburg Ave Mt Gretna, PA, 17064 United States (map)

Carrie Patterson will give her lecture "Abstracting Perceptual Experience in the Landscape."

Paterson teaches at St Mary's College of Maryland and is a visual artist working in Leonardtown, Maryland. Her artwork considers how color, form, and line metaphorically measure the human condition as experienced through the body. She earned a B.F.A in studio art from James Madison University and an M.F.A in painting from The University of Pennsylvania. In addition she was a student resident at The New York Studio School where she worked with second generation abstract expressionists: Charles Cajori, Mercedes Matters, and Rosemarie Beck.  See her website by clicking here.

"After a lecture last year by Lynette Lombard whose observation based work verges on painterly abstraction, Jack Anderson asked something like, 'I've always wanted to know what Abstract Art is all about,' and so I thought to bring an abstract painter, with empathy for the perceptual tradition, to be a visiting artist and lecturer this year.  Carrie Patterson is perfect!"

This lecture will be hosted by the Pennsylvania Chautauqua in the Hall of Philosophy
